Daniel Negreanu is Wrapping Up a Highly Profitable 2026 World Series of Poker
Table Of Contents
Daniel Negreanu will wrap up his most profitable World Series of Poker in years on Wednesday, and he'll finish the summer in contention for WSOP Player of the Year.
The GGPoker ambassador came into the series having played minimal poker since the WSOP Paradise series in December. But he didn't show any rust and not only won his second bracelet in three years, he reached four final tables and still has a chance at one more in the $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E. event.
Negreanu bagged an above-average stack Monday on Day 1 and will return to action at 1 p.m. PT for Day 2. It could be his final shot at another deep run at what has been a successful 2026 WSOP for the Poker Hall of Famer.
Can Negreanu Win WSOP Player of the Year?
Negreanu hasn't factored into the WSOP Player of the Year race much the past few years, and he didn't enter this year as a favorite. Shaun Deeb, who had a headstart with three final table appearances at WSOP Europe, was the clear-cut favorite.
Deeb's summer has been an all-or-nothing affair, with only one min-cash, a runner-up finish, a bracelet win, and a 15th-place finish in the Main Event. Once the WSOP site adds his Main Event points, he'll be locked into a virtual tie for first place with Alex Foxen. Naoya Kihara is right behind them, and Josh Arieh and Jesse Lonis are within striking distance. Calvin Anderson also still has a puncher's chance if he can win his third bracelet of the summer on Tuesday at the $10,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship final table.
And then there is Negreanu, who hasn't been talked about much this summer in terms of Player of the Year contenders. He wasn't even a factor in the race until he won the $100,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha event for his third bracelet a couple weeks ago and added another final table appearance days later.
Negreanu sits in sixth place in the POY race. According to the WSOP POY calculator, he would essentially move into a virtual three-way tie with Foxen and Deeb if he were to go on and win the High Roller H.O.R.S.E. bracelet. Even a second or third-place finish would bring him within a deep run away from the top spot.
The Player of the Year race will not conclude until after the WSOP Paradise series in December. Deeb and Foxen remain the favorites, but they aren't guaranteed to win. One thing is certain, and that is, regardless of how the final two days in Las Vegas play out, the race will come down to the Bahamas. Deeb, despite having a headstart entering the 2026 WSOP, didn't rack up enough deep runs and cashes in Las Vegas to put it away. It will come down to which contender performs best in December.
Negreanu's Profits and Losses Since 2018
Negreanu is attempting to secure his 15th cash and fifth final table at the 2026 WSOP. Per his Tuesday vlog, he's up $1,702,513 for the series, his second winning summer in a row after three consecutive years of losses at the WSOP.
The eight-time bracelet winner began sharing his wins and losses after each WSOP vlog in 2018, a year he lost $393,897. He followed that up with a strong performance at the 2019 WSOP and another winning year in 2021 thanks two late final table runs. In total, Negrenau is up $1,131,600 over the past eight years at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas (excluding the 2020 COVID cancellation), and that number will increase if he cashes in the High Roller H.O.R.S.E. tournament.
